Kaval Kottam is a brilliant chronicle of the historical events from the times of Malik Kafur’s campaign to South India and his eventual conquest and victory against the Vijayanagara kingdom and from the times of British invasion. Before the British ruined the Madurai Fort, the author establishes that it had a very unique security system and details on it. The British took over it by conquering the security guards and pronouncing them as Notified Community, after housing them in a Gudalur – Cumbum Valley camp. The security guards were denotified only after India achieved independence. A lot of inspiring tales of valour of many women are also detailed in this book.
